Villains of the Earth
We live in a world where 8.7 million species co-exist with us, with many more species yet to be discovered. When I say co-exist, I actually want to say 'attempt to survive.' That's because humans, being the most superior of the species don't believe in co-existing. Co-existing means treating everyone equally and that's something that doesn't fit in the human nature. They want the power in their hands and infact under their feet. They like to feed their egos by belittling the ones around them.
They say they believe that there is one creator who created all of us and call him the 'Almighty' and then go ahead and challenge their own beliefs by trying to control and take over the world which doesn't belong to them.
Most of us, in some point of our lives have been guilty of relishing on those delicious 'food' items like chicken wings, pork ribs, beef steak and the list goes on, by most of us, I mean, including me. Is your mouth watering already? Hold on for a little bit more. Whenever we go out to eat with a group, there are always one or two people who often stand out and are made fun of for only eating 'grass' while we relish on that juicy meat; yes they are the vegetarians. Don't we just hate them? The way they complain about not having enough options to eat, about people teasing them about their choices and about how they accuse you for killing someone else to satisfy your needs? It's just plain annoying. Why can't they just eat their salad and let us meat eaters kill in peace?
We are often told, especially in India, that eating meat is bad for certain religions. And since we Indians are desperate to incorporate western culture in India, because it is cool, we often make fun of those people who tell us not to eat meat in the name of religion. The rebel in us suddenly awakens, and we go ahead and claim that we are atheists and that's why it is fair for us to kill someone and eat them. Religion is just like a plastic coating on top of package, to make it look appealing, to attract people, it's just a marketing strategy. The true package and the whole crux of this strategy is often neglected.
We eat meat because we are not the ones who acquire that meat, we just enjoy over someone else's sins. Would we still eat meat if we were the ones who had to acquire it? To hold that little animal in our hands and fill those hands with blood without once feeling bad? That's something to think about, isn't it? When eating meat, we forget that that meat was once a part of a living being with flesh, bones, brain and most importantly a heart and a mind of its own. And we just took it away for no other reason than our own selfishness.
If God is the creator of this universe, then who gave us the right to eventually destroy the elements of this universe and bring them to extinction?
The level of hypocrisy is so high in humans that even the meat that they choose to eat also has hierarchies. Like the things that look cute and are of use to us are not killed, because again, they are of use to us, we can overpower them with our dominance for our need, we don't need to kill them. That's another kind of selfishness in humans. No matter how hardcore of a non vegetarian you are, you would not eat or atleast think a several times before killing a dog. Doesn't your heart melt when you see that cute little puppy, and doesn't it hurt you when that cute little puppy is in pain? Why does that happen? That's because that puppy is cute enough for your Instagram pictures and eventually it's going to be a loyal friend to you. Well we say friend, but it's usually a follower. They listen to us and that's why they are man's best friend.
But what about the other spieces. Let's put all the religious and ethical reasons aside. But what about those morals of our souls. It hurts when we see the ones we love in pain, then why do you think that isn't the case with these animals? Just because they are not smart enough? Just because they can't talk and dominate like you? All it takes is just a little bit of feeling to understand them.
I agree our ancestors once used animal meat to survive and that's how we have evolved. But the fact is that, we have evolved. We have developed our brains enough to reason and think and make new inventions and find new things. And as far as source of protein goes, there are various other sources of proteins and vitamins like 'vegetables.' Sure they don't taste as good, but atleast they didn't cost someone's life.
We call ourselves the 'most intelligent' ones don't we? Then I think we are capable enough of making even the most boring of vegetables taste good without having to kill somebody to satisfy our taste buds.
With this blog, I just enlightened you about just the tip of the iceberg. We have seen many movies where with a superhero and a villain where in a villain is just as powerful as the superhero, but still gets defeated because of using his power in the wrong way. We as humans have the superpower of our intelligence but we our becoming the villains of this universe by using it the wrong way, and in no time, it is going to defeat us, when the universe will cease to exist because we couldn't value and cherish it. It's never too late to make a change, Superhero or a Villain, the choice is ours.
