The Ripest Peach
Her stomach growled into the night as she tried to maintain her calm and go to sleep. She thought this was for the best, for her best. She decided to starve herself so that people would accept her as a part of the 'normal' world. As she lay there with an empty stomach, staring into the darkness, she reflected back to her childhood days, being the super skinny kid that she was, she was catcalled by several names. People would often take her for being 'weak' or children would call her a runt, titch, matchstick and what not.
At that point she started assuming that there was something wrong with 'Her' and that she needed to change in order for people to accept her and stop picking on her. As she grew, that once tiny skinny kid was now growing up into a mature girl. There were changes in her, not only physically but mentally. As she was introduced to the world outside her school walls, she started experiencing new things, like those two pedals were now replaced by an ignition and a motor. Her shoulderbag was replaced by a purse and innocence was replaced by practicality.
In the midst of exploring her new self and the newly introduced outside world, she started seeing changes in herself. Her favourite T-shirt did not fit anymore and her Jeans was now passed on to her little sister. She almost became unrecognizable from that timorous skinny girl to a young pudgy female. She started hearing her being catcalled again, from fatso to plump, from a teddy bear to a cow and what not. Then it got her wondering again. She was amused at the fact that how the world is so confused in it's own self that it cannot come to a conclusion as to which appearance they like the most.
She started experiencing changes in people's behaviour, how the 'perfectly' bodied boys and girls were given so much attention and the rest were given a rather odd subsidy; insecurity. She started experiencing changes in her own self, that once outgoing and happy girl was now relunctant to go out with friends in the fear being the centre of hoot again. Those shopping sprees that once made her happy, now made her depressed because her shopping got limited to the 'Large' section. Going out to eat almost became an act of shame, as if she was doing something atrocious. As a result, she decided to change herself yet again to try and 'fit' into the world, literally. Gymming sessions exceeded capacity limits and diet sessions were restricted to straving limitlessly. Her once beautiful smile now turned into speechless whimper. Her confident walk was now diffident, scared of walking in public with a fear of being judged and mind so numb in insecurity that it could barely contain.
Looking back at all this, she thought to herself, was it worth it? Putting yourself through immense physical and mental distress to be 'accepted' by the world? With no gurantee of being 'aaccepted' even this time. After a night full of endless thoughts and debates with her own self, she woke up the next morning with a completely different mindset. All of these changes may not have gotten the world to accept herself as she was, but she couldn't care less as she started accepting herself the way she was. Through all these years, she had come to realize one thing, that 'You maybe the ripest peach in the whole world, yet there will be someone in the world who hates peaches!' From that moment on, she decided not to limit herself and starve herself, but that doesn't mean she would let go everything that she did so far, she would still hope for a healthier and wealthier self, but she was not going to let the world define her for who she was not. She decided that the only curve that people will talk about was her smile! Since that day, she did not walk out of the house with a 'perfect' body, but the gleam in her eyes and the confidence in her smile made her so beautiful that she started loving herself!
Remember, words are like thorns, they are going to hurt only if you hold onto them! Instead be the rose who blossoms while bearing the same thorns! In this world full of imperfection, the only thing that is perfect is your own confidence. Flaunt it and experience the world change.
