The Heart is Not Made of Glass

There are some people who, when experiencing a bad break up, will completely devoid themselves from the concept of love and affection. They claim to have turned their hearts to stone because one amongst billions of other people has broken their heart and left it wounded. These people, who once used to give up everything in the world to just spend time with their partner have now given up the idea of love from their life. By doing this, you are not turning your heart into stone, you are just closing it's open door to the world. Inside that door is a soul that craves for attention, for love and respect but you suppress it by making the lock tighter with each heartbreak. I would like to tell these people something. Life, is not meant to be perfect and it sure is not meant to stay with you forever. If you are living on this Earth, you are going to have to leave it at some point, whether you like it or not. In such a case, where our own life is not in our hands, how do we expect som...

How Media is Taking Away Our Independance

I study video and filmmaking which means that I get to see what goes on behind the big white screen and based on whatever I have been learning and experiencing, I can tell you that media plays one of the most important roles in influencing our lives. How many times have we looked at those perfectly fit and flawless actors and wished that we could be like them? How many times have we watched those numerous clichè versions of Romeo and Juliet and wished that our 'Knight in Shining Armour' would come and save us from this cruel world? And how many times have we seen that actor turn his life from rag to riches in 3 hours and have gotten inspired to suddenly change the world? But let me just burst your bubble here and tell you, all of this that you see on the screen is nothing but a big scam. Yes. I said it. It takes several hours to just get the actors' hair to stay in place, let alone make them look 'perfect'. Since media has an access to such a big platform and such...

LOVE

In this world filled with diversity, war, hatred and division, the only term that is socially acceptable and practiced despite all religions is 'love'. No matter where we go, love is something that we'll find anywhere and everywhere. But even though the term love is accepted world wide, it too has gotten humanized in many ways. When it comes to animals and other spieces, love is  just an emotion, which if they have, they never fail to express and if they don't, they don't even try to. But when it comes to humans, love comes with it's 'terms and conditions applied.' There are different hierarchies and levels of love that humans feel for different people and things. It's not even like there are a universal set of terms and conditions that get applied to the emotion, they differ from person to person and for person to person. I would say that the media industry today is booming because of this emotion 'love'. It's not just an emotion any...

Villains of the Earth

We live in a world where 8.7 million species co-exist with us, with many more species yet to be discovered. When I say co-exist, I actually want to say 'attempt to survive.' That's because humans, being the most superior of the species don't believe in co-existing. Co-existing means treating everyone equally and that's something that doesn't fit in the human nature. They want the power in their hands and infact under their feet. They like to feed their egos by belittling the ones around them. They say they believe that there is one creator who created all of us and call him the 'Almighty' and then go ahead and challenge their own beliefs by trying to control and take over the world which doesn't belong to them. Most of us, in some point of our lives have been guilty of relishing on those delicious 'food' items like chicken wings, pork ribs, beef steak and the list goes on, by most of us, I mean, including me. Is your mouth watering already?...

Escaping The Tornado

It all started 2 years ago. I was out for dinner with my family when I first felt it. At first I thought it was just an acid reflux from eating too much spice. But then, it started growing by the minute and suddenly everything went numb. My head started spinning like the wheels of a high-speed sports bike and my legs started shaking like they had no life left in them. There was a very prominent choking feeling in my neck as if some monster was pulling onto my esophagus hard enough to make me choke but not enough to take my life. I could feel my heart beating as if it was on the highest fast forward setting. I was rushed to the hospital by my very clueless and scared family members and upon reaching there, I was taken into the general ward immediately and given an injection after which I was absolutely fine and back to sanity within minutes. Turns out, it was an allergic reaction to something that I had eaten. Everyone was relieved, and we went home as if nothing had even happened. Ev...

I study in a design college,  which means that we study and do things that don't fit the usual conventional routines. Our learning procedures and experiences are not just limited to the four walls, but require us to step out into the real world and completely submerge ourselves into it in order to 'learn'.        Subsequently, in the past two years, I have been fortunate enough to experience the true soul of what we call 'humans' and their way of functioning in different circumstances. So, in the last semester, we had a module for Photography where in we were supposed to capture the true crux of Pune through the pictures that we click. So, being the overexcited and overenthusiastic teens that we were, my friend and I set out early in the morning to explore the profoundness that the city holds.        As we passed one lane after the other, we started getting more and more curious about the functioning of the city...

The Eyes That Changed My Life

For a long time of my life, I remember being a very naive, coy and an insecure person. I was so afraid to talk to people that I was often the centre of hoot for various reasons, may it be my shyness, my appearance or even just the fact that I was there. That's when I realized, that the most intelligent species in the world is actually a scam and the notion of co-existence was just a farce. Humans, instead of helping each other evolve, liked to feed their egos and self esteems by belittling the same species around them without caring about each other's souls. But then, when I had almost made up my mind that this world is filled with deciet and even hoping for co-existence had become a sin, I encountered onto something, not human of course, that subsequently was about to change my life forever. When I, for the first time, saw those four tiny little paws running towards me and greeting me with utmost pleasure like I was someone very important and loved, something struck me. Whe...

Perfect

We, as humans, have a tendency of putting unecessary expectations on the world and ourselves and subsequently get disappointed when those expectations are not met. We sometimes forget, that we, as humans, were born to evolve, and not meant to be 'perfect'. Yet we wake up each day with this bag, constantly on our shoulders, carrying the rocks of unecessary expectations everywhere we go, using it to fuel our fear and anxiety and living in this eternal cycle of unconscious misery. We constantly live in the fear to look perfect, act perfect, right from the tip of our toe nails to the colours in our hair. It's almost considered as a sin to have a flaw, as if we are so blinded by the delusion of perfection that we forget that having flaws is infact a sign of growth and change. Our flaws act as the larva to our emergence, developing each day, which acts as a  fuel for each flaw, in the quest of discovering our butterfly some day. As a result, when we put this unecessary burden...

The Blank Canvas

When we come into this world, we come with a blank canvas in our hearts waiting to be filled with all kinds of colours as we grow up. When we are little, and we don't really know what real monsters are, we are just awestruck by the stories and the tales that are being told to us at bedtime, so that we can paint our own parallel canvas in our dreams. We are not only fascinated by the prince who saves the princess, but also by the dragons and the monsters who try to take over the world. We get so engrossed into the world of fantasy, that when reality knocks on our doors, we don't know how to react and what to do, and that's when teenage happens. We are so delusioned by the tales of fairies and Neverland where no one grows old, that when we step out into the real world, ready to get our canvases painted, we are not only confused, but hurt, as to not seeing the world for what we imagined it would be. We come to know that all those tales of heroism, peace and humanity are mean...

The Power of Empathy

People say, "It's all in your head." They say, "These are just your delusions." They always give you all kinds of advice, except for a valid solution. Nobody wants to feel sad, negative and broken, But, you never know how many emotions are hiding behind that smile, left unspoken. The thoughts start swirling in the head and the body starts becoming weak, And this is the time when your vulnerability is at its peak! You don't feel like getting out of bed, and you don't want to function, It's like you are stuck and frozen at a very big junction. Depression is overflowing with a silver lining of anxiety, Yet, you remain silent, for the sake of being accepted by society. You try to reach out to them, you try to tell them that you need help, Your face; happy, your eyes; sad, with your mind letting out a yelp! You try to release the tangle of thoughts but they intertwine more with each try, It's like happiness is a mirage in your minds ...
